Temples of Angkor (In Pictures)

Only because of the sheer numbers of temples, I’ll have to do most of this in pictures! Besides Angkor Wat there are many other complexes in the reserve.

Before Buddhism spread into Cambodia, the Shaivism and Vaishnavism branches of Hinduism were widely followed. The ShivaVishnu, Ganesh deities are craved all over the Angkor temples along with stories of Mahabharat and Ramayan engraved on walls. On bridges leading to gates of Bayon; the famous devata and ashur tug of war is craved in enactment with huge statues.

Hawan kunds and broken lingas lay throughout the sites. Hindu mythical figures such nagas, Garuda etc. can be easily spotted.

Female figures (with bosoms shaped to die for) called Asparas are fleetingly everywhere for your viewing pleasure. Hinduism at a time when sex-appeal was celebrated!
